It is never too late to make someone smile, and who wouldnt want that? Baking can be therapeutic. Its also one of the best ways Ive found for relaxing after a long day at work or school because it gives me such an amazing feeling inside knowing there are going home smelling like fresh baked goods waiting on them when they walk through their door step!
How To Freeze Banana Bread
Once your loaf of banana bread has finished baking and completely cooled, slice it. Place slices of banana bread untouching on a baking sheet covered in freezer paper, parchment paper, or a silicon baking mat, and then freeze for 1-2 hours. Transfer the frozen slices of banana bread into a bag and store in the freezer up to three months.
Freezing the banana bread into separate slices is important because then you can only thaw what you need in the moment. If you were to freeze fresh/ un-frozen banana bread slices without freezing them separately first, they would all stick together.
Alternatively, if you know you’ll need a whole loaf thawed at once, you can wrap your loaf of bread tightly in saran wrap to preserve freshness, then place in an airtight bag and freeze for up to 3 months.

Just note that ceramic pans can bake a little different than the traditional metal loaf pan, so you may need to adjust your bake time accordingly.
And, for those of you asking what brand cocoa powder I use, its Hersheys Special Dark. I love the rich flavor it gives and I really like how intensely chocolate the bread looks when you bake with it.
So pretty and tasty, which is a win-win!
You can buy it through that link on Amazon or just grab it at your local grocery store near the rest of the cocoa powder. I love that its readily available.

Tricks For A Super Moist Banana Bread Recipe
Here are a few tips and tricks for super moist banana chocolate chip bread:
- Don’t over mix your batter. This won’t directly impact the moisture as such, but it means the crumb will be a little tight from the formation of the gluten, so affects the texture.
- Yogurt banana bread recipe – adding greek yogurt to baking recipes helps with the moisture without making the batter too loose. I lean on this trick quite often. You can also use sour cream if you do not have any greek yogurt.
- Use super ripe bananas – ideally, the best bananas for banana bread should be almost black. Spotty ones are fine in a pinch, but that really rich banana flavour and moist texture is helped along by nice ripe bananas
- Don’t over bake. Over baked banana bread can mean that it is a little dry, so try to avoid this if you can. If the streusel is looking like it is getting dark before the bread is done, you can pop some foil over the top to stop it from burning. Use a skewer or a toothpick inserted into the bread to check for doneness – it should come out clean or with a few moist crumbs attached.

How Long Will It Keep
Leave this chocolate banana bread in an airtight container at room temperature and it should last for around 3 to 5 days.
If you still have leftovers after that, you can extend the shelf life by stashing them in the fridge for another week or so.
Or you can freeze them! This recipe freezes beautifully and will last for a few months at least. Thaw at room temp or in the fridge, and reheat a slice or two gently for a few seconds in the microwave, or in a low oven.
How Long Does Banana Bread Last
This is a hard question because we usually eat it so fast that is gone after two days. However if you do not devour it right away, banana bread lasts 4 days on the counter and up to a week when stored in the fridge. If you are going to freeze it then you can save it for about 4 months when stored in a ziplock freezer back or airtight container.
So there you have it! My favorite banana bread recipe that is sure to please. This recipe has been tried and tested by many, so I know that its a winner. How To Keep Chocolate Chip Banana Bread Moist
There are a few keys to keeping banana bread moist and tender:
- The correct ratio of fat and bananas to flour is key, since the fat and bananas add moisture to the batter. Too much fat or bananas, however, and the bread will be gummy and mushy.
- Do not over-mix the batter. Stir just until the ingredients are combined and you don’t see any dry pockets of flour, then stop. A few lumps in the batter is normal. Overmixing the batter will activate the gluten in the flour, yielding a tough, dry bread.
- Do not overbake the bread or it will become dry. My loaves are typically done by the 55-minute mark, so check it early.

How To Make Chocolate Chip Banana Bread
STEP ONE: Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F and grease two 9×5 loaf pans. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, cinnamon, salt, baking powder, and baking soda.
STEP TWO: Using a stand mixer, puree the bananas. Add the eggs, honey, brown sugar, oil, and vanilla extract and beat until everything is well combined.
STEP THREE: Slowly add the dry ingredients to the mixer until well mixed, scraping the sides as needed. Mix in the chocolate chips and then pour an even amount of batter into each loaf pan. You can also sprinkle more chocolate chips over the top of each loaf if youd like.
STEP FOUR: Bake the loaves for 55-60 minutes or until a tester comes out clean. Allow the loaves to cool for 20 minutes before removing them from the pan to cool completely.
Can I Use Frozen Bananas To Make The Best Chocolate Chip Banana Bread
The short answer is, Yes, you can. However, I dont recommend it. For the best results, use very ripe spotty bananas. Ripe fresh bananas will provide the necessary sweetness while still contributing solid structure to the loaf without making it stodgy.
Frozen bananas discolour and will leach water once defrosted. This free water can make the loaf soggy, and it may bake with a dense gummy layer on the bottom. Also, bananas take on lots of unpleasant freezer flavours that can alter the taste of the loaf.

How To Keep Chocolate Chips From Sinking In Banana Bread
I haven’t had a problem with the chocolate chips sinking in this thick batter however, there are a couple of good ways to avoid that issue. First, I recommend using miniature chocolate chips, which disperse evenly throughout the bread and aren’t as heavy . Next, if you are using the larger standard-size chocolate chips, you might want to lightly toss them with a small amount of flour before stirring them into the batter. This method helps the chocolate chips stay suspended in the bread.
Why You’ll Love This Double Chocolate Banana Bread
It’s super, super moist. The ripe bananas and buttermilk keep the bread extra moist.
It’s as chocolatey as it possibly can be. The banana bread uses Dutch process cocoa powder for a rich chocolate flavor and it’s also packed full of chocolate chips.
It stays fresh for days. This banana bread will keep it’s perfect moist texture for up to four days. I do recommend refrigerating it after day two.

So, this twist on banana bread is a great way to fix all those cravings in one simple recipe.
Banana bread is one of my families things that we all share, except for my sister because shes picky. Its especially my dads favorite kind of bread dessert, and he even taught me the different ways you can eat it.
Chocolate Chip Banana Bread Cake
All you need is
- 1 stick of melted butter
- 1 tablespoon of vanilla extract
- 2 cups of all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 cups of granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup of brown sugar
- 1/2 teaspoons of salt
- 1 teaspoon of baking powder
- 2 tablespoons of cinnamon
- 1 cup of chocolate chips for inside the batter and about 1/2 cup of chocolate chips for the topping
In a large mixing bowl or stand mixer, fork or beat the banana until theyre completely mashed. I used my mixer to beat them to be more efficient.
Once the bananas are smashed, add in the wet ingredients . Beat until well incorporated.
Now in a separate bowl, combine the dry ingredients . Then add the mixture into the wet ingredients.
Once all of the ingredients are combined, fold the cup of chocolate chips into the batter.
Grease a 9×13 baking pan and evenly distribute the batter into it.
Our Favorite Pan For Banana Bread
The type of pan you use can make a BIG difference in your bakes. Dark pans can scorch the exterior of your cakes or breads before the interior is done, while glass and ceramic bakeware can take longer to cook.
I recommend a coated aluminum pan. We love and recommend this 9×5 loaf pan. Its affordable, lasts for ages, and has nice, crisp corners for stunning-looking bakes. Be sure you use the size loaf pan called for, as using a larger or smaller pan will impact your bake time.

Banana Bread With Streusel Topping
I topped my chocolate chip banana bread with a quick chocolate streusel topping, which is super easy to make. You basically add all the ingredients to a bowl – flour, raw sugar, brown sugar, cocoa, and a wee bit of salt, then add melted butter and stir until clumpy.
The streusel adds an amazing chocolate topping to the banana bread which really compliments the chocolate chips. It may look like it is a lot when you add it to the pan – that’s because it kind of is a lot, but the thick streusel layer is just so, so good. Trust me on this one.
Our Best Tips For Making Banana Bread
When Im baking banana bread, I expect it to come out perfectly . Here are our best tips for making this banana bread recipe:
Grease the loaf pan and place the pan on an insulated baking sheet or on two regular baking sheets stacked on top of the other. This is a trick we picked up years ago. The insulated sheet , helps the bottom of the bread bake evenly so it doesnt over brown.
For glass pans, reduce the temperature. If you are using a glass loaf pan, reduce the oven temperature by 25 degrees Fahrenheit.
How can I tell when its done? You can tell when banana bread is done when you can pierce the bread with a long cake tester and it comes out clean .
What if its browning too quickly? If, during baking, the top of the bread looks like it is getting too brown, cover loosely with aluminum foil and continue to bake until done.
Cool to room temperature. Since the loaf continues to cook as it cools, it is best to allow it to cool to room temperature. I leave the baked banana bread in the pan for 5 to 10 minutes before turning it out onto a wire rack where it can cool completely.
