Historic Cocoa Village Hotels

Slightly Stoopid, Tribal Seeds, Matisyahu, Hirie – Riverfront Park, Cocoa FL 06/08/2019

Despite its proximity to Cape Canaverals Kennedy Space Center, as well as Port Canaveral, the fastest growing cruise terminal and the second largest in North America, the village lacked a hotel. The Cocoa Village Hotel, a boutique concept within the Radisson Individuals portfolio, is slated to open next year in a newly constructed, eight-story building with 107 guestrooms and a rooftop restaurant and bar to take advantage of the propertys views of the Intracoastal Waterway. Its tiered design blends in with the local historic architecture dating to the 19th and early 20th centuries. Amenities include a spacious pool area with fire pits, meeting rooms, lobby-level dining and market, and a 265-space parking garage that also serves non-guests. Between the much-needed accommodations and parking, the beautifully detailed project will be a win for the whole community. In the meantime, there are many lovely, short-term rental properties through services like Airbnb. Fun fact: OSIRs brand-new office here is housed in the former Parrish Grove Inn. Built in 1891 for the Pettee family from New York, the once private residence was moved by barge from its original address on Rockledge Drive to its current location on Delannoy Avenue in 2002. OSIRs new office is ideally situated to serve any needs or questions regarding Brevard County real estate.

Cocoa Village Pirate Museum

Having our son with us meant we absolutely had to stop at Antilles Trading Company and Pirate Museum. This specialty store has authentic pirate costumes, fun kids’ toys, and a back room with rare finds like first-edition books and props from the Pirates of the Caribbean movies. We bought a few little treasures to take home and were offered free tickets to the adjoining Pirate Museum as a thank you for our purchase. The amount of detail and knowledge that is packed into the Pirate Museum impressed all three of us. There are way too many displays and exhibits to number. A few fun photo opportunities made our visit even more memorable. It is only one room, with a small back room, but it is very well done and full of interesting details.

Historic Cocoa Village Culture

Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, The Historic Cocoa Village Playhouse first showed silent movies when it opened as the Aladdin Theater in 1924. Today the villages cultural crown jewel programs a wide variety of entertainment for all ages, such as Broadway musicals, small-production plays and films. The 10-acre Cocoa Riverfront Parks amphitheater accommodates 5,000 people for regularly scheduled concerts. Upcoming acts include Stick Figure reggae band and Texas groups Whiskey Myers with Shane Smith & the Saints. Due to its old-fashioned charm, the village gets a huge turnout for Independence Day. The Brevard Symphony Orchestra will perform a complimentary Fourth of July concert in the park followed by fireworks. The village and chamber of commerce always seem to be hosting an event, too. A few on the books are Cocoa Village Concours with 200 cars, Christmas in July Sip & Stroll, and Arts & Crafts Festivals, which resume in fall. Tourists also like to check out the many art galleries like Carolyn Seiler Studio, and the list is growing with additions such as Street Talk Studios coming in August. Both also host art classes, while new craft studio Suzy Makes Mermaids workshops are popular for birthday parties and bridal showers.

Add In A Visit To Rockledge Gardens

[4K] Walking around Historic Cocoa Village in Cocoa, FL | Space Coast

After our spectacular morning in Cocoa Village, we had one more destination on our itinerary. Just ten minutes down US 1, Rockledge Gardens is touted as a destination garden center. I had never heard the term, but when we pulled into the parking lot, I knew it was the perfect description.

After walking under the entrance archway, endless rows of beautiful flowers, lush plants, trees, and so many places to explore greeted us. Staff members ready to answer questions appeared at every turn. And then I heard the live music. A garden center with live music? I rushed toward the sound to find a duo strumming along and singing on the front porch of the Farmer’s Market building.

Inside the Farmer’s Market building I found stalls displaying handmade goods from local artisans. You can also purchase specialty beer or wine to take home or enjoy as you stroll through the gardens.

Make sure to stop by The Cypress Table, which is a catering company that has a small market onsite offering some of their own products, as well as products from artisans in the area. I regretted not bringing a cooler. The Cypress Table has lots of fresh goods to take home like handmade hummus, dips, a small selection of produce, and specialty meats. The bacon looked incredible and had I brought a cooler bag I wouldve gladly brought some home. Many of these goods are sourced from local vendors and creatives, and The Cypress Table’s space showcases these unique goods. Dont make the same mistake I did!

Space Coast Nature Nights

The Space Coast is known for its unique natural wonders, cool down with a moonlit nature tour. Bioluminescence illuminates the waters of the Indian River and Mosquito Lagoons in the summer. You can take a kayak tour from one of the many kayak tour operators and paddle through these organisms, watching them light up the water as you disturb the stillness. These guided tours will teach you all about the unique conditions that foster natural phenomenon and send you home with a magical memory.

Sea turtle walks are another fun way to cool down and experience nature and wildlife at its finest. Enjoy the ocean breeze as you carefully walk the beach to see these creatures nest and, if youre lucky, new hatchings emerge. Its truly fascinating as you watch these sea turtles in their natural habitat and is a one-of-a-kind experience that everyone will enjoy.

Just because the heats on in the Space Coast doesnt mean you cant cool down! For more experiences and other ways to keep cool on the Space Coast, the Space Coast Vacation Planner is another go-to guide for where you can sleep, eat, and play, or check out the links below for all things Space Coast.

Historic Cocoa Village Shopping

I had to exercise some serious restraint when browsing the diverse shops in Cocoa Village. I am thinking a return visit in the fall to do some holiday shopping will be on my schedule later this year.

There’s plenty of shade as you stroll throughout the village. Even window shopping is a delight.

Exploring Harrison Street is an absolute must-do. This short street is precious to me because it curves around a few trees, and there’s also an out cove with a bench that makes way for a tree. You’ll also find quite a few charming shops and cafes.

Brevard Avenue is the main avenue of the village. As you might expect, being near a beach town, there are plenty of Florida and beach inspired shops. But you’ll also find tons of art alongside specialty shops. Browse unique wines and foods at the Village General Store. The Cocoa Village Playhouse is here, as are countless shops and restaurants including Threadneedle Street Mall. Highlights of this collection of shops includes Caroline’s Records. The Toy Box is right across the street and is a great stop for any family.

One of the highlights of our visit was a stop at The Sunshine Shop. As a Florida native, I loved being surrounded by shelves stocked with Florida gourmet sauces, cocktail mixes, and more. There’s also handcrafted art, jewelry, clothing, and house wares made in Central America. Purchases from this shop benefit fair trade village communities in Central America and local Floridian food makers.
